Diesel Grand National

I think this would be way cooler if someone took an original diesel Cutlass and put in a souped up Duramax... And tell people it came that way. 😛

I don't know why you'd do it to a grand national... I like the idea though. I saw a first generation monte carlo with a Cummins 5.9 in it and I thought it was really cool. I think that would be a really awesome setup for a big old land yacht like a 60's Cadillac DeVille, or Eldorado or one of those suicide door Lincoln Continentals.

So if I read it right Buick put a few Olds diesels in the Regal like Oldsmobile did with the Cutlass. So its actually (or another posters) Regal (GN semi clone) that originally came with an Olds diesel which allows it to not have to meet any emissions and therefore be registered in Kalifornia.

At work we have a fleet of newer Ford diesel pick ups and a few Duramaxes we got used. They get abused driven by everybody and most have 200,000+ in just a few years. Corporate has some deal with Ford otherwise we would not use them. Ford has a better body, frame, suspension but hands down the Duramax & Allison transmission is better. Mileage, running, maintenance, repairs. All three mechanics are tired of working on the Fords.

So this person put a Duramax into a Grand National, his car with a full tank of gas weighs over 4500lbs. , and it runs a best on a dyno tune at 8.5 in the 1/8.

So the point of this was...? That converts to 13.56 in the 1/4 in a perfect world.

I don't know why everybody gets so bent out of shape about "putting a diesel into a GN"...

For starters, who cares? They made over 20,000 GN's in '87, so there's plenty to modify.

And most importantly...
That car is not an original GN! It is actually a Cutlass that they put all Regal sheet metal on...

i remember reading about this actually being a cutlass, i could not for the life of me understand why not bail out of the cutlass and buy a regal to start with.

either way the work seems to be sensational

Actually if i remember correctly it is a cutlass made to look like a grand national. This way it could pass strict california emissions it was originally a oldsmobile cutlass doner car. 😀

Newer Ford Diesels do suck ever since they discontinued the 7.3L the 7.3L Powerstroke is a beast though. I have had two of them I have one right now, and my brother has two. I liked the 6.9 IDI ford diesel too those will go forever... Longer than a Powerstroke, as long as you don't mind it being about the slowest thing on the road. 😛

On top of a cool car not many people have you will have a car that can dump black clouds on people
