Warm up the car to operating temp

Then spray water down the carb while you gently rev the engine to keep it running it will clean off the carbon

Like, from a Windex bottle, not a garden hose. Pistons don't like hydro-locking.

If you suspect it is indeed carbon build up -- a run of GM top engine cleaner prior to an oil change might be a good move. It burns off a lot of carbon in a smelly, smokey process. I've done it in the past with success

That 7.9:1 3.8 shouldn't need 91 octane, and if it diesels on that, something isn't right. As mentioned, it seems to have carbon in the chamber causing hot spots.
