I have a 10 bolt 8.5 differential that seems to have a leak...the cover looks damp from the bottom half...

I have identified this differential by watching this video

...and finding the "ears" on the bottom corners of the cover...

The cover also looks old, if I replace the gasket to fix the leak, I want to also replace the cover...

Why does the cover look damp from the bottom end of it ?

I don't see any signs of excessive wear, it's a one wheel wonder so it'll get you around but if you get more HP you'll be wanting a limited slip of one kind or another. Someone else has been in there before judging by the orange RTV used in place of a gasket. Just make sure to clean up your mating surfaces before you put it back together, razor blade is the best method so as not to create low spots like abrasives are prone to causing.

😎👍🏾...Should I clean and use the same cover that was on it ?

Buy a gasket of course...
