I wasn't sure where to put this because it has to do with the distributor and vacuum and electrical, so I put it here.

There is a vacuum canister that has a wire going to the distributor on my boys Cutlass. What does it do? I've never seen anything like that before. The wire enters the distributor on the opposite side of where the tach connector is (passenger side)

It must be some kind of vacuum switch. It is not the vacuum advance, I know what that is.

Thanks in advance.

Check inside, is there a 5 pin module? I had an 81 307 Canadian distributor with the rare 5 pin module. If that wire was energized, it retarded the timing 10 degrees for emissions purpose I believe.

I wonder if it would retard the timing at idle? That would make sense I suppose. Was your car made in Canada? According to the VIN this car was made in USA, but maybe they modified it for Canada?

I live in Alberta BTW.

Cool. I can't wait to take a rip in it. My boy is pumped, it's his first car, and it's 14 years older than him!!

We towed it to his place a year ago and neither one of us have driven it yet.
