I am wrapping up my SBC engine project on my 1986 Monte SS. I want to try the optical trigger type distributors. I've narrowed my selection down to
Mallory 8648201 Comp 9000 Unilite Distributor Series 86 or one of either the Crane Cams 1000-1500(LARGE CAP) or Crane Cams 1000-1501(Small Cap) designs. I have read the problems encountered with both brands and also the remedies to correct them. I am leaning more toward the Crane Cams mostly because I am going to be running their HI-6 Ignition Box w/LX-92 External Coil & their model distributors are a more up-to-date technology. Alhough the Mallory is compatible and I know they make good products as well. Anyone have any experiences or preferences running either one of these Optical Trigger Distributors? If I do choose the Crane Cams brand will I have any clearance issues back toward the firewall area running the Large Cap design over the small cap design? Thanks for any feedback.
