i called a couple shops around my area and they want ruffly $650 for a true dual exhaust with H or X pipe and any muffler i want. and keeping the stock transmission cross member, if i want the catalytic converters they want even more! (i don't really need them tho state doesn't do emissions on cars older then 96) one of the shops said they would even change the stock manifold studs. or should i just buy a dual exhaust kit off line(no H or X pipe), dual hump cross member, and down pipes to use the stock manifolds and install everything my self. estamated cost would be 550ish.

I wouldnt pay that. You can find a complete kit on Summit for around $300. All you would have to do is notch the cross member to get true duels.

Agreed. Do your own kit. Much cheaper. $500 for a complete custom exhaust and header install sounds more reasonable.

Well it's illegal for shops to install dual exhaust into cars that had non dual from the factory. Honest shops will refuse to do it and the shady ones might for a large amount. Since it's an illegal mod you are best off doing it yourself. Even running dual cats will not make the ehaust legal, only the factory split exhaust with a single cat is legal.

I would definitely do it yourself and you will want to modify the crossmember or replace it with one set up for dual exhaust, if you have someone try to work around a stock crossmember they will either flatten the pipe or run it under it causing ground clearance issues and looking like crap from the side of the car.

against the law??? never heard that one before...
if i do it i would buy the dual exhaust kit with the cheap mufflers on JEGS Part Number # 555-30556 $229.99, down pipes for the stock manifolds, Part Number # 958-DGU13S $116.99 and from what ive read the th350 will fit a 2004r the dual hump cross member, Part Number # 550-41050 $179.99 totaling $550.95

When I had mine done I supplied the mufflers and I had installed the G-Force cross member and shortie headers myself. It cost me $240 for them to fab the pipes and install everything.

I paid $500 for my duals with a new 2 in 2 out cat and two Flowmaster super 50's. I had them run everything down the passenger side like a 442. So I didn't have issues with the cross member. It's not "against the law" here in AZ either.
