Hello everyone..
I recently changed the intake manifold gasket on my 86 Grand Prix. It has the 305 with the 2004r transmission in it.. When I got it back together I had to adjust the timing in it because I had to remove the distributor.. I have the timing advanced a bit because it ran like crap setting it at 0 BTDC like my book suggested. But I m also having some trouble with the way my transmission is shifting. It doesn't shift out of 2nd the way it should and it also seems to want to go into passing gear when it doesn't need to. It seems as if it doesn't know what gear its supposed to be in. Would the way my timing is set affect how my transmission is shifting ? I tried adjusting the TV Cable but not sure if I am doing it right. Everything was fine before I tore it apart. Please help.

id think it is likely a problem of the adjustment of your TV cable

I agree.
Find out the proper way to adjust it before you fry your transmission.

You guys were right. I look up the TV Cable adjustment and then followed the instructions and one little small click later my transmission is shifting like it was. Thanks for your input.
