DISCLAIMER: Volatile rant ahead.

What is wrong with people these days? So very entitled and risk adverse.

One reoccurring theme I am seeing in this hobby are those people who “see” the results and want the results, but are incapable of understanding or appreciating the effort that went into achieving those results. The internet has made images and information so readily accessible to everyone that they just want that instant gratification to transfer into real life – especially with their cars. We are fortunate that there are so many well documented builds here; yet with the growing popularity of the G-body we are seeing an onslaught of newbs showing up wanting the solutions to all of the problems solved by so few. A quick and easy recipe – add water, mix, heat, and enjoy - does not exist.

Suspension, brakes, engine swaps, and wheels. Oh God! Wheels!

Do you know how many questions I have fielded over the years on how to fit tire/wheel combos on cars that they said was impossible? I have gone so far as to write a tutorial on the subject.

Yet, it is too much effort – if it doesn’t fall out of a catalogue or is neatly packaged by a vendor – they just fluff it off. The information is provided – but, action is not taken.

Moreover on this point we are also subject to those who want specific results traction, handling, power, etc – but, are completely unwilling to shirk their preconceived notions or take the extreme measures necessary to achieve their desired results. Ladies and gents lurking about this site, it is time to break out the sawzall, angle grinder (w/zip disc of spinning death), and procure a welder – and do it for yourself; make the mistake, fix it, and carry on. If you want extreme results you have to push the limits, both yours and the car's - otherwise the sheep line forms to the left.

Again, as stated before, the openness of the community here is refreshing (so many talented and daring owners) – but don’t PM me a poorly written inquiry expecting a sunny reply packed with pixie-dust full of magical solutions. Show me what you know, and I will help validate it.

Built, not bought.

LOL I love your rants. I do recall one years ago about someone telling you there was no way you could have put the rear tire size you listed for your Monte on your Monte. Even after you posted pics !

Wilst I do agree with your statement there are plenty of people out there who just do not have the skill or knowledge to pull off what they see done on other cars. So questions are asked hoping for a simple reply. On occasion I take the time to respond , others I have just learnt to ignore.

I also have to agree with your rants. With the advent of more new members coming aboard, besides asking some of the same questions repeatedly, many choose not to bother searching for the answers, rather than expecting instant gratification as Mike pointed out. If in fact the answers can't be found after doing a thorough search, then by all means ask the relevant question.
But please, at least make the effort to find it on your own.

This is a friendly community with many knowledgeable members always willing to help a fellow enthusiast. But, I must say, it irks me when advice and good suggestions are given and yet ignored or not accepted.

Please do not take this post the wrong way. I try to use the search. I do my research. And often still ask a question as I am learning. I also will stop a 'modification' prior to starting it if I know that I am not capable of doing it. I do not want to put my car out of commission during the summer or early fall. I agree that there are to many expecting instant fixes. I am often looking for alternative fixes on my skill level or how to scale back to what I can handle. I agree there is no reason to say that it cannot be done. The bigger question I have is can I do it within my time, budget and capabilities.

I usually just use google to search the forum. Another thing to note is that some threads are from over 10 years ago. The aftermarket has changed considerably since then.
To be honest, I also find Google a more direct search option at times.
