Salute to the young guys that actually like these cars and didn't buy them just to "fit in". Experience is the best teacher, and by doing a lot of work/mods on your vehicle(s) yourself, you'll gain lots of experience.

I got into them officially at 19 back when no one liked them lol

LOL I love your rants. I do recall one years ago about someone telling you there was no way you could have put the rear tire size you listed for your Monte on your Monte. Even after you posted pics !

Wilst I do agree with your statement there are plenty of people out there who just do not have the skill or knowledge to pull off what they see done on other cars.

Ha! Yes, I don't miss the intellectual blackhole that is MonteCarloSS.com.

The thing is that I didn't just wake up with these skills (and if anyone did I want to buy you a beer) - it took years of trial and error to sort of refine them into something useable. For that reason I commend anybody who picks up a wrench and starts working it out for themselves. Media sources like Youtube, HRM/magazines, and the internet as a whole do not paint a realistic picture of what a car is. The Ring Brothers (worst cars ever), Boyd, Foose, Rad Rides by Troy, Strope, Nelson Racing Engines, etc all just create magazine dreamers on the backs of the cheque books of the 0.0001% of the hobby - yes these commissioned builds help drive the industry, but do little for the average Joe and his/her initial engagement in the hobby.

There is a sense of satisfaction which comes from doing it yourself - making things will our hands is in our nature. That incomplete feeling so many people live with day-in and day-out cannot be satisfied by the procurement and consumption of material possessions alone - it lacks integrity to just try and buy the solution.

These cars do need a lot of work to compete with modern cars or even the A bodies they replaced. I still say GM went backwards in the handling on these cars compared to the A body. But for their time, they were decent cars, certainly no K car. If I took my marshmallow, even when it had the mid 14's 350, the little 3.5 in my Challenger would destroy my 88 Cutlass on a twisty road course.

I'll take the handling of my f41 cutlass over any a bodies handling lol

"Askholes." Asks a thousand questions and ignores everything you tell them. But they aren't new. I'm sure Henry Ford had a neighbor who had a cousin that did it better, made more power, and used free parts to do it. And they will never go away.

a bit of an aside: the search is what you make of it. Just typing a short phrase into the search bar gets you a lot of everything that's even remotely related. The more specific your query, the better your results. Use operators (i.e. -word, "quotes around exact phrases") and stuff. Also there's an "Advanced Search" with more options here: https://gbodyforum.com/search/ ... and it will let you limit by "newer than" and by section, etc.

Also, I'm using the "enhanced" search addon for XF if that tells you anything. How it does or doesn't work is kind of out of my hands. It's better than the standard engine anyway....

Maybe I should look into putting an alternate "use Google to search the forum" page up and see how that goes. It's likely not that hard....

now get back to ranting and stuff :friday:
