I had the gas tank out of my 85' El Camino to replace the sending unit.
I wanted to use the car the next day for my 2 week vacation. No one had the sending unit in stock locally, so I installed one from Auto zone. The application said that it fits 78' - 86' station wagons...I installed it.
The next day we headed out and the gauge worked fine... until I dropped to 1/8th a tank, then the car died.
Long story short, the feed pipe doesn't go all the way down as far as on the El Camino sender.
Don't ya' just love being on he highway at midnight in the breakdown lane.... in the rain, thumbing a ride!, NO!
