well now i wasted money on a car fax id say.... yeah it said my car has never been in any accidents but the drivers door, the pinstripes are faded and the rocker panel has a few runs in it like its been repainted. and my front bumper is slightly bent it looks like but yet it doesn't have any wrinkles in it or anything and my car sits lower on the pass. side then it does on the drivers side on even ground... i guess not all that stuff could have been reported, there's a bird poop stain on my trunk that went so far through its rust now haha (or at least that's what it looks like)

did you do the single car or the multi-car report?

Carfax is only as good as what is reported

If a person gets into a wreck and doesnt report it. It will not be in carfax.
If you take the car to mom and pop for maintenance it will not show up in CarFax.
But major dealerships it will.

CARFAX is only as good as the people who report on it.

But it is still better than before CarFax, when you just had to word of a person who is selling the car.

OK my examples of their lack of information had nothing to do with accident reporting. How can you miss a title change? How do you not check the nationwide stolen car lists? Accident damage can usually be spotted by the trained eye. Things like number of owners and auto theft wouldn't be so obvious. Seems the only way CARFAX knows a car is stolen ... is IF an insurance company pays out a claim. I don't know about you, but I found it almost impossible to find an insurance company willing to put theft coverage on a Cutlass.
