I just stumbled upon this while researching running a iPod on the Linux operating system, and I figured I would post it for anyone who wished to try it. It is down for the night right now, but should be up tonight ( It's an Australian site and the bots are solar). It's free to try, so I figured I'd post it here if for no other reason than to bookmark it for my own trial when I get home at midnight.

I found it on this site:http://www.hackaday.com/2008/08/12/drive-a-robot-in-australia-over-the-web/

Tried it, but the lag time is awful. Still kinda cool though, since you are controlling something half a world away and in a country most of us have never even visited. It's kinda like playing with a public webcam of a famous place like Times Square.

Sadly so... 🙁

look up what they go through to control the mars rovers....now there's lag time!!!

I was thinking the same thing. I guess that is why they use an AI to run them with general directions instead of specifics from Earth.

makes for a fun "bumper cars" session!!

i parked on top of another car once and killed one of the other cars.

Thats pretty cool. I was trying to run in to this guy standing their but it would only do circles when I tried to go forward. 8)

Another cool thing to do is what I like to call "Webcam Exploring". Basically, you Google Webcam+a location and see what you can see. Some cams are controllable by the surfer, so you dictate where it will point. There is one in Times Square, and so many in England that you'd lose count. I even found a surf cam in Australia. Just remember that the place you choose needs to have daylight. I also used to have a code to hack webcams for private buildings, but forgot it long ago.

Here's a site listing multiple cams if anyone wants to try it:

Lots of cams in Japan:http://sunq.jp/xoops/ Many are in real time refresh rates.
