Hello everyone, I'm planning on going with either a 454 or a 383 in my 85 Monte SS. I want to put a dual plenum setup on it. I want to remove the high beam headlights and have my intake start there. I know Spectre makes something like what I want but I was wondering if I could get my exhaust shop to make the piping the way I want it so it would all be one piece instead of all the little pieces with the rubber/plastic connectors. Is this possible or am I missing something very important? Thanks in advance! (Also I plan on removing my AC/Heater, smog pump, and a couple other things I don't need) -Chris

It could be made as one piece, but you are missing one very important issue. The engine will move under acceleration and you need a flex joint somewhere in the system to accommodate this.

Would I need the flexible part in the pipe itself or could I make the support out of some kind of rubber, almost like the rubber exhaust hangers, but instead of hanging, it would be holding it up somehow. Thanks for the help! -Chris

I would say you would probably need 4 flexible joints in the pipe 2 at the headlight connection (which you won't see) and 2 at the air cleaner assembly.
I think trying to make a 1 piece would as already stated would not be able to compensate for engine movement plus would probably make the actual install a nightmare trying to get everything in place at one time.
Also as a 1 piece it would give you limited access for service to your carb, valve covers etc.
You figure the 2 tubes will be 3-4' long with at least one bend and probably a foot of pipe routed through the core support to your headlight attachment.

Man, I went to the junkyard brought a spare air cleaner. Cut off the snorkel off the spare air cleaner. Cut a hole the my good air cleaner. Pop riveted the snorkel my air cleaner. And spray painted it black. Look factory, couldn't be happier. Then went to home depot for the flexible ducting. Spray painted it black. And ran it thur my headlight with a (2) 90* degree joints that makes a "S". Turned out really good. I will see if I got any pics

And this was on the Diesel. LOL...

GMPP used to sell dual snokel THERMAC air cleaners to replace the single snokel ones, like what F bodies came with.

I have a dual snorkel, with the tubes that mount above the lights, is it really all that more air flow by removing a light and making a duct??? i thought about doing this numerous times but my main concern was all the bugs and sand and crap gunking up the air filter... or even just moving where my duct connects...
IGNORE THAT POOR SAD 305... ITS NOT IN THERE ANYMORE, I REPLACED IT...

WHAT REPLACED THE OLD, TIRED, SAD 305.... FULL ROLLER 350

3rd gen Camaro dual snorkel air cleaner is what I had planned for my GP's 350 swap.. http://www.oldcarmemories.com/content/view/111/113/ sorry for the long article but it does have a nice picture of the induction system, I had planned on doing a vortec 350 or 383 while trying to keep it somewhat stock looking.. went ls instead. I do have a customized cleaner and a og cleaner that needs restored AND NOS tubing and ductwork that I'm holding on to a special project that is going to have a carb..
