dual camshaft question

i have an 1987 toyota cressida 5m ge engine. i just replaced valve stem seal and both camshaft. i understand that the engine have haudralic lifter and no adjustment is need when replacing camshaft. is that true? now the car have a rough idle and a popping noise from the exhaust pipe. what could have gone wrong?

i understand that is not a toyota forum but i need help. anyone can help will be appriciated.

sounds to me like the exhaust cam timing might be off a little, if its advanced you might get exhaust valves opening before combustion is done and that could cause the popping sound in the exhaust.
