Dumb question regarding dipstick of a 231 V6...please help!

OK, this is a very dumb question that anyone on this forum should know the answer to... but I don't lol

Earlier I wanted to check the oil level of my 85 Cutty with a Buick 231 V6. When I pulled on the dipstick, it and its tube came right out. I spent the next hour over and under the car with a flashlight, and could not figure out where the tube goes. Is it on the oil pan or the block? How do I go about putting the tube back in? A picture is worth a thousand words, but any help is appreciated. (told yall it was a dumb question)

P.S. If I cannot figure this out, can I at least make it to my mechanic's shop (about 10 miles) without losing a shitton of oil? I wouldn't care about losing old oil, but I just changed it and don't want to lose a quart of fresh oil...

I had one of these engines, I can't remember either, but I've got the oil pan still, so i should be able to tell for you. I'll go out and check it out when it stops raining....i believe i've got the dipstick still if interested.....thanks

It goes into a hole in block just above the oil pan rail about 3/4 of the way towards back of block from the front

Thank you chevy2480, I was able to find that hole, it's actually at about a 45 degree angle, not 90, which is why I was unable to find it when I was shining the flashlight right over it laying under my car. Tha tube took a minute to fit (I poked it between the wrong 2 headers at first lol), but once I got it right, it went in there like SWAT into a crackhouse. I am actually glad that it fell out today, it was barely hanging in there as apparent from the amount of oil gunked up around that hole I had to clean off, leaking oil, so now I gotta make a trip to my buddy's shop tomorrow and get a rubber bushing so I can put it on the tube and have it all nice and sealed.

haha glad you found it i jus saw this post or else i would of answered that question for you and took a picture of mines since it comes out all the time due to no smog and long tube headers that dont let it bolt to the engine any more lol.

clean it good and a little silly-cone should seal it up and hold it in a lil tigher.
