HELP Radio install... am I just dumb?

There is nothing for the tabs to rub or lock against. Everywhere there is a tab, the only surface it can touch is a completely smooth flat surface. I'd have to use a dremel, which I'd have to buy, and make more tabs, or cut out the smooth part of the inner plastic to have something, anything, for the tabs to bend against.

My apologies. Pics 2 and 3 made it appear to have a front lip until I zoomed in to see it's just a parting line. Would it be possible to use short screws? It looks like there are a couple square holes that might accept one.

I agree, that's a poorly designed/ made adapter.

I'd probably just drill some holes in the top and bottom for the tabs to fold into.

Drilling holes is what I'm gonna try.
Will report back.

Ended up going with a different kit.

Worked a lot better.

Excellent! Was this kit different in ways other than also having slots for the tabs?

It wasn't so much as slots, it's the way the face snapped into the surround as well as the little smooth part that I was going to drill being almost non existent so the tabs could have a place to go.
In retrospect could I have modified the first kit? Yes. But for another 16.99 to have something that actually properly fit, AND has multiple faces (.5 din equalizer eventually), it's a better option.
