Eaton posi spider and axle gear change help.

Hello All!

I posted this on another forum but thought I'd also post it here.

I have an Eaton 7.5" posi carrier with 26 spline axle gears.
Here are a couple of pics:

I have just scored (2) '86 Grand National 28 spline axles.

Is it possible to purchase a spider/axle gear kit and upgrade this unit to a more respectable 28 spline set-up?

How will I know what to buy ? Will they fit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think you can change the input spline count on a posi unit

On that note, if you would like to sell that 26 spline posi carrier I may be interested 😀

I didn't know if I had to change/upgrade the spider gears. That is precisely what I was asking.

So, is it possible to change out the axle gear to 28 spline?

As before, I would be grateful for any help regarding this issue.

I don't belive you can fit 28 spline spider gears inside of a 26 spline spider gear carrier. You might want to look at using a Zexel/Torsion carrier out of a 4th gen Camaro or Firebird to use with those axles.

He's looking to put 28 spline 8.5 rear axles in a 7.5 housing. The carrier will need to have 28 splines also, which the 7.5 doesn't.

Man I think that you should buy aftermarket 7.5" axles to go with that posi you got, and sell me one of your grandnational ones :lol: And just curious how did you end up with only the axles? was the rest of the rear end not for sale?

I just caught that..

if you can find a 7 5/8 carrier from an F body they have the 28 spline spider gears which fits in a 7.5 rear end allowing you to use the 28 spline axles
