Ebay part- NOT LISTED CORRECTLY! Air Intake Hose For Olds V8

I was the one who bought it for my 260 Blue Calais. It fit perfectly and was alot better than the one I had in the car (which was falling apart and was ill fitting from day 1). While it may not be entirely correct, I'm not too picky with my blue 79; I'm generally after function over appearance for this car. The comments are spot on regarding whether this was the correct part for my car, but this time around I really needed to get something to replace the existing one & this piece fit the bill for now.
Pre-heat air taken off the exhaust manifold bypasses the cold air intake most of the time. I took the cold air intake off.

If the Thermac is stuck it may do that. Under normal ops, the air cleaner gets its air from the heat stove only when it's cold out. If you were going to have to lose anything, for me, the silver heat tube would be the one to go. Once warmed up, the Thermac closes off the heat stove and air is entirely drawn in through the cold snorkel/air intake duct.

BlueCalais79 - Glad that the part fit your 79 to where you like it. Function over form usually wins the day for a daily driver. Depends on how correct you need it to be. I had no doubt it would fit the air cleaner and scoop, it was just a matter of how much extra you'd have and how well it would clear the alternator and fenderwell. I still haven't done a head to head comparison on the two numbers yet, but there is a reason there were 2 different part numbers. It very well could be one was 3/4" longer than the other. GM did weird junk like that.

Good point there, and I will say this, it's a good thing I have a 75 series battery in there as it's a tight squeeze between the alternator and the hose. A 78 series would push it uncomfortably into the alternator, I'm afraid.

Which would probably crush the rat like the one that got into doood 's original hose. 🙂
