I'm looking into getting some software for performance tuning... Can anyone reccomend a good one? I seem to only find software for german and japanese cars. Is there anything good out there that can do everything? Or can someone reccomend a few different ones to cover most applications? Cost is not really an issue, I definitely want the best I can get.

What type of system do you want to tune? TPI, vortec, LS based, tbi?

I was hoping to do just about anything. From chev TBI to VW CDI. I've been asked hundreds of times at work if anyone local tuned ecms, and I thought I might try my hand at it to capitalize on the local market for it. I would think I would have a lot of calls for econo tunes as well

There is some free software floating around the net for older stuff like CCC, TBI, TPI, etc.. For the current stuff it takes software like HP Tuners' VCM Suite with a $500 standard license besides buying credits to be able to use it on more than one car.

To tune the older stuff such as TBI and TPI, , you will need a prom burner and software like Tunercat. Tunercat also has a OBD II version for 96-99 vortec, and a version for 94-95 LT1. For 96-97 LT1 a lot of guys use LT1edit. For the modern stuff 98 up EFI Live or HP tuners. EFI Live for HP tuners make you buy credits to tune multiple cars on top of the software price.

I just looked again and the modern tuning software just begins at $500 and goes up to $900. Modern stuff sure are money rackets.

X2, same thing I do. I use tunerpro alot for the TBI, TPI, CCC stuff though. You would also need a chip burner to do the non flash-able stuff. Licensing for the software is not cheap.
