So I Bought the Edelbrock 4449 valve covers for my 83 el camino 305, the first side was easy as hell, but I’m having serious issues hitting the vacuum pump I think on the top of motor, I’ve tried for over two hours trying to twist and turn it and every time it hits seems to be hitting on the pump, does anyone know if I need to modify these covers to fit or dent them in to get around the pump, they honestly don’t seem to be much taller than my stock ones… I’ve already ripped all the wiring harness out so there literally nothing blocking me except the damn pump

If what is the problem is what you're pointing at, that will be the EGR valve. Might need a spacer & believe Edelbrock have it.

Yah that’s what I’m hitting some how the angle to fit between the two seems to tight, I looked up EGR hitting valve cover of Edelbrock and seems like it common problem, I don’t know why they can’t ever tell me these things when I’m buying the valve covers, guess I’ll be ordering some spacers thanks for the quick response

80 bucks to rotate a part 90 degrees, SMH…
If it was 3/16 taller I wouldn’t even have this problem, I might try making my own spacers

Did you try pulling the EGR valve off, putting the valve cover on, then putting the EGR valve back on? It's a pain in the posterior end but it might save you the $80.

I just bite the bullet and bought the adapter, the egr was hitting the valve cover every time the gap was just too tight, hopefully this fixes it, I’ll let yal know in a couple hours, and shout out to oReillys, I ordered this part at 11:30 at night and had it by noon the next day…

After installing the Edelbrock 1476 EGR adapter everything fits… It lifted the EGR significantly, I can get my whole hand around the bell now, I couldn’t even get a quarter gap between it and the valve covers previously … If anyones installing taller valve covers I highly suggest trying this adapter… I also still had to make adjustments to my valve covers when installing, I had to bend down the front lip, it was catching on the bracket for the alternator, not allowing my bolts to line up…
