Wondering if anybody has run hedman #68610 midlength headers and what mods were done? Have a pretty decent 408 bbc in my 78 running the hooker swap headers with slip tubes(got em used for $200)...i hate how close to the ground they hang not to mention the pass side was a pain to fit and makes everything to tight with the heater box still on the firewall. Had to bend the brake lines around them and still don't really like how close they are

How much has been done to your 408?
I have only ran the Hooker super comps and currently have Lemons headers, I know you are looking at a mid-length but a lot of people have ran A-body headers with only a few clearance issues not sure about ground clearance though.

On Summit's Web site, those headers have a review which says, "with minor modification, they fit my G-body with a 454." I'm just guessing, but it sounds like dimpling a couple tubes is all that would be required.

Well, slap me on the @$$ and call me Sally. I completely forgot about 396's!
Considering you can now buy crate 454 SBC's most people have forgotten about the 396 BBC.

Picked up the block and a forged crank for $100 as opposed to the 300 that 454s run around here for generally a block thats seen better days..running 11:1 compression edelbrock aluminum heads the cam if I remember right is right around 236 @.050 weiand dual plane with an edelbrock 750 feeding it..2500 stall in a th350 pretty fun to drive around.

Sounds like a decent combo for it's size.
