I have been poking around for some build sheets about about the year changed and trim packages about the El Camino. I have not come across a source that kind of breaks down the years and options they could have. Is there a collect all site on the net or a thread here that has such info ? I am looking to get my first G-body here shortly buy I would like to plan for what years or options to look out for.

Things that i have found that are important to me go as follows.

86-87 Gauge style (with tripometer)
What model engine packages determined how man dash gauges you received ? (with total of 6 possible)
I think I read 84+ had the option of the 4 speed automatic (over drive?)
Power windows / power door locks ?
Emission changes ? no smog pump ? first year of ect ?

For this level of detail, I would also try your question at elcaminocentral.com.

Mattsrecording,

I've found a book that I think would reduce your "search" time and be at hand (if you buy one). I'm always grabbing the book for quick information! ...Here's the book: Catalog of Chevelle, Malibu & El Camino ID Numbers 1964-87. ...Also, darbysan gave good advice about trying over on elcaminocentral.com! I'm a member there too.

Thank you fellas I am on my way to find one now. I currently looking at a 83 ( only if its a 4spd manual and not the 3spd)

I would be surprised to hear that an 82 and later G-body came with a manual transmission. In my limited experience, sticks only came in 78-81 cars. Please prove me wrong.

Of course, if you want to make a manual, it's not actually that hard. I have some extra parts if you go this way in the future.
