I decided to pull the trim off my 80 Elky so I could refinish it like I did the front trim. That's where I ran into trouble. The body shop prior to my ownership apparently just gooped the trim around the rear window and didn't use a single clip. I ran into the same problem in the front but a razor blade and needle nose pliers enabled me to get the 16 clips in those little studs that stick out. Well, I started poking around the outside of the rear glass and only was able to find 4 studs sticking out to put the clips on. They were on the bottom right and bottom left, just as the trim starts to go vertical. I found none on the bottom of the window or on the top. Has anyone pulled the trim and could tell me where the studs are to mount the clips for the trim? Or could tell me if there is a different way to mount the trim? I'm just having a hard time finding anything with all that black goop everywhere.
Thanks

If they fail to exist for some reason, use small stainless steel screws with a head size similar to the head of a normal trim clip stud. I found mine at Lowe's when I added the rear window trim to my Cutlass after ditching the Landau roof.

The rear window trim is off my '81. There are eight pins on the lower side, spaced about 7-8 inches apart with the end ones about 4 inches from the corner. On the top there are six and they are about 6-7 inches apart. None are dead center, this should give you an idea as to how to place your clips.

Thanks All,

Unfortunately I'm SOL. I dug, scraped, razored and pulled just enough black goop so the window would not leak and there are none except for the two on each side of the vertical locations. My guess is this car had rust of some sort at those locations, the body shop shaved all the studs and filled in spots. The area actually looks pretty good, just no studs....... Now I know why the trim was gooped in, I'm hesitant to do the same thing. I'll figure something out.
One other question. I bought a few bags of those clips from Dixiemontecarlo.com and tried to use them. After struggling with them for a bit I compared them to some of the old ones I pulled from the front. The original ones are a tad bit bigger and the Trim snaps into them with no issue. The new ones I couldn't push the trim down far enough for it to snap in. Does anyone have a better source for those clips that are the same size?

I tried the local NAPA before I ordered online. I'll check out the napa website and maybe Summit.

Thanks again

A search of Napa brought this up.

this is a pack, if you look on the left you will see white ones. Those are the ones I need, the aqua ones in the middle are the ones that got sent from Dixie and they do not work. I couldn't find the white one separately?

Do like mentioned above with the small stainless screws, there should be 4 on each side and 4 or 5 across the top.

The clips that I have in my rear window are white but, they are exactly the same as NAPA's light blue ones, (Balkamp # 665-1434 / pack of 15).
The white ones ( Balkamp # 665-1120 / pack of 14) may be for the front window only.

el_sonoma,
I too got the light blue ones from Dixie but they were not the same size. I guess I got screwed. That is great info from NAPA though I did buy the 1434 ones two days ago, I thought I would give them a shot and see if I got lucky. They should be at the house in a few days. I couldn't find the 1120's you mentioned. The part numbers go from 1119 to 1141. No 1120 on the online site???

81 Regal,
I just may end up doing the screw thing to hold the clips. My question is.... is it possible to do with the window still in? I mean you have to put that in about midway on the upper and lower deck and the glass is right there.
