i have the same prob with my elky. they guy who had it before me just gooped on the rear and front window trim and im thinking thats how its gotta stay for a while. i have a rust hole on the a arm at the top corner on the driver side where the top corner of the windsheild sits. when i bought it i kept hearing a whooshing noise in the car in that area and i coulndt figure it out. i stuck my fingers on the inside driver top corner and i could see them from the out side! so i had to fill it with window seal and now i have a trim piece covering it. man, i got ripped off.

You might be able to do it with the window in but it will be easier with it out, besides it sounds like it would be a good time to reseal it. Don't be scared to pull the window, use some heat to soften the glue and use a cold cutting tool. I've take out a couple rear windows that way.

Thanks Regal,
I think your right. There is sooooo much goop packed in there anyway that it looks horrible. It could probably use a good cleaning and reseal anyways. OK next question... I know they sell the kits at Advanced and places like that. Would one of those windshield kits be fine to reseal it or do you have better advice?

I haven't seen the kits you are asking about, no advance, Kragen, Pep Boys nearby. I watched the guy at the local dealership put in a windshield, they used a sealer from 3M don't remeber the name think it was windo-weld or something like that, but came it a tube, just used a calking gun to put a nice bead of sealer all the way around the window frame.

All the kit is, is a roll of Butyle (sp) with adhesive liquid to prep the area. Anyway, I did it..... Got the window out around 1500, it took till 2100 to get all the crap out, it was like bubble gum times X 1000. I then marked and drilled pilot holes for the #4 stainless screws I bought today. I put the clips to hold the trim on and that's where I left it. I just hope I put those clips in the right spot 🙂 It's hard to guess when the window is not in.

Sounds like you are on the right track and making progress. Was the old sealer dried out?

Unfortunately it wasn't dry.
There was a mixture of this gooey mess and a very hard sealant. The gooey mess is what took so long, I used a whole bottle of goo gone and two rolls of paper towels to get it all up and that was just the channel. The window took some time to clean up also. Then there was that hard stuff that they used to stick the trim onto the glass and metal of the car. I had to carefully razor blade that stuff off meticulously. What a pain in the @$$. Tomorrow Ill get the install kit and see how everything fits together.
BTW, I did use the blue clips, I'm hoping I set them out far enough so the trim lip will catch and secure them in.

If anyone has been following this thread, My job is complete. I bought the Roll of Butyl and some primer. Taped the car and primed where the roll of butyl gets laid down. After I let the primer dry I removed the tape and paper, rolled out the Butyl sealant and plopped the window right in. The clips I custom mounted worked out great. I now have trim that's refinished and not glued in. The rear window looks great and the job isn't that hard.
Thanks for pushing me in the right direction Regal and thanks to sonoma for the stainless steel screw tip!

sounds good man, glad to see ya got it done. now to see if i can pull it off. pics would be nice.

Pics will be no problem, I'll edit this post once I have them done with a link to my site where I'll upload them.
