I mounted a bright 20 LED lamp above the rear window. I only had to drill one hole I just put a drop of RTV on the wires before I stuck it on with double sided tape.
(got it from JC. Whitney).
If you mount the lamp inside the back window you will light up the inside cab every time you hit the brakes.
Very distracting when driving at night.

I installed one of the cheap ones off ebay ( less than $5, IIRC). Easy install, and I don't notice the reflection in the cab ( don't drive a lot at night either  ). Wire the hot side to the white wire coming from the brake switch, other side to ground. I also had previously bought a license plate frame that had a built in brake light ( and license plate light), just as another idea.

I do like the one over the rear window. May do that someday...

I would also like to add a 3rd brake light in a spot where it's either flush or right behind the glass. I was originally going to incorporate it into the air deflector, but I won't be using it.

Paul, you found a perfect spot for it on your El Camino. Our cars with the taillights down low absolutely need something higher...and the brighter the better.

That was my thought also, That 20 LED light is really bright, even in the daylight. My new taillight housings are much brighter that the original ones were.

Originally I was going to use a Third brake lamp from a 94-2003 S-10 blazer on the roof. I still have it If you want to go that way Jack.

Thanks Paul,
I have seen them on Blazers, and was wondering how they would look on the wagon. I'd hate to drill more holes if I don't have to.
Although it probably wouldn't look that bad up there, and would certainly be visible.

I think a while back we had a general discussion about using led's from Blazers, Astro vans, etc. I believe Mark (Bonnewagon) mentioned something to the effect of them needing to be connected to a logic circuit (board)...?
Have you tried connecting it directly to a 12 volt source?

Never mind I can't find it now... :blam:

Paul,
If you do find it, I might be interested in it. I'm sure there's ways to mount it where it wouldn't be too invasive.
Thanks man!
