Well, it’s been a while since I got rid of my last project, but I’m back, lol. Picked up a 1985 el Camino 4.3 fuel injected(tbi) for a steal. Sat for about a year according to previous owner. Turns over but fuel pump not kicking in….thats where I’m at right now

I replied to your other post. Yet I'll reply here as well. On the TBI 4.3 fuel pump runs through the oil pressure switch. This is mounted on the back of the engine on the driver side. The connector should be a three-prong connector, looks like a triangle configuration. The switches go bad, and you get no fuel. O'Reilly's has the fuel pressure kit you can rent for about $60 and when you return it you get your $60 returned.

AutoZone has a similar kit, but the main importance is that the kit has the fitting for the TBI. TBI systems have not been sold since the early 90s because after they went to TPI and then they went to the Vortec injection.

The way your system works, is that the ECU will fire the fuel pump for 9 seconds and that's enough to get the vehicle started. Once it gets started the oil pressure switch takes over that supplies power to the fuel pump that's in the tank.

On your hoses on your tank..., get rid of them. The older hoses will be destroyed by today's gasoline and it will result most likely in a fire. Any of the lines that you're having trouble with you can cut those and use the compression fittings with the proper size ferrule. Supply is typically 3/8 and return is 5/16. When you buy new lines get the high quality high pressure fuel injection lines. The reason for that is these are rated for fuels we are running today.
