I researched a bit on fan conversion. All I've seen is the fan assembly attached to an open radiator. I plan to keep the OEM fan shroud in place to maintain a 'close to OEM' appearance. Can someone tell/show me if that is possible.
Thanks Ed..3 days into G Body ownership!

I cant answer your question Ed but I would be interested to see what you come up with.
Just keep in mind that a properly working OEM clutch fan, rad, water pump & thermostat will be more than adequate.

You can use a Cutlass V8 top plate. This is a factory piece and will hold the radiator firmly in place and has a flange for mounting your electric fan...timo22

At the wreckers this weekend I saw a four door 2BBL V8 Cutlass. Would that plate work? Unfortunately I can't picture what the part looks like and how it's fitted...I assume bolt in?

...Is there a difference from the SS front extension when compared to the Cutlass and others in respect to rad and shroud mount parts?

I'm on my way to get some Dot 3 brake fluid to flush the system.

I don't think so.

Re: the reason for electric fans. I have heard(maybe misinformed) that this emission choked engine would benefit from removing or altering any power robbing accessory?

Electric fans when running draw extra current from the alternator forcing it to work harder.
A clutch fan only robs power when it is fully engaged.
Probably not a whole lot of difference.

You wont see much performance ( if any ) improvement in the power department by removing the fan. If you have not already done so here is some light reading for you below 🙂
The cutlass top plate will bolt to any g-body radiator support. You may have to move a couple clips over to get the bolts to line up. You should grab that top plate you seen at the wreckers. Along with any of the under hood supports, HVAC vacuum ball, underhood light. Or just tell me which wrecker you went to and I can grab them 🙂

BTW for the short time my SS was stock, the biggest power improvement was dumping the manifolds and putting some headers on it. Felt like I found 30 hp ! If you leave them "natural" then they appear almost stock with a fine coating of rust LOL
