I'm swapping out the flex fan and small auxiliary electric fan for the Mark VIII/Thunderbird 18in electric fan. At the same time I was thinking about the water pump. I have a Bosch replacement water pump right now that has done a good job for the past 5 years keeping the motor cool without any problems. My only thought here is does an electric water pump really free up that much power, if any? What is the most inexpensive electric pump out there? (probably chinese  )

ive used em. u cant tell on power but they say they are gonna free up 5 to 10hp. the cheapest is prob proform or procomp.

That's what I figured chevyman. I'm gonna stick with v belts just because of my opinion that the serpentine doesn't free up as much power as I think it would and it does more for cosmetics. If anything all the brackets just put more weight on the front end than the v belt setup. Most of the serpentines I see out in the yard are steel and not the aluminum ones everyone recommends.

personally i love the v belt setup. the only reason i used the electric water pump is becasue i put a f250 radiator in a sn95 and had clearence issues with the water pump pully and the electric fan. i had about 1/4 inch between. and using an electric pump gave me some more room between them so that was the route i went.

The big advantage of an electric waterpump is that it can continue to run even after the motor is shut off. Since this seems to be an open thread, I've got a question. Most of the electric water pumps i see do not have an inlet/outlet from the radiator; they just bolt to the block. How does that work? I now have a small block 400 in my Cutlass and I've heard that they are prone to over heating, so I am considering buying one.

ur inlet is the t stat housing on the intake manifold and the outlet is on the lower part of the electric wp. if u dont see one its cuz some companys sell a thread in hose fitting seperate. but its there on the pump
