dropped steering column to fix the rod for the dimmer switch. put everything back together. now have no lights, voltage to the cigarette lighter and radio. Looked all over the place to see what wires got disconnected. i saw none. everything worked before i dropped the steering column. Fuses and relays are ok. The positive wire for the headlight switch ( red ) is grounded. racking my brain trying to figure it out. don't know if there is a wire cluster i missed when checking.

Mike,
I had no lights on my 85. Replaced headlights, headlight switch, fuse, and thoroughly checked ALL wiring from bulkhead forward. Finally traced the problem to the dimmer switch. I know this is a dumb question but are you sure it is installed properly? ( I ask because the switch can be moved up or down slightly on the column before tightening to allow for the proper adjustment of the dimmer switch rod). Have you used a tester to be sure you have power coming out of the dimmer switch?
The other possibility could be your headlight switch but it seems unlikely that would have gone out at the precise time you changed your dimmer switch. I know this is frustrating but my guess is that the issue is still in the dimmer switch. Check for power coming out of it first.
