Hi. Here's a question for anyone. I've got a small-block short block and I can't identify what it's from. No casting number that I could find.

2 Bolt mains
Bosses for roller lifter retainers are present in the lifter valley but are not tapped.
Flat-top pistons with 4 valve releifs.
Drivers side dipstick.
Mechanical fuel pump boss is present and drilled.

Must be a Corvette motor!

If you can't find the casting numbers, you aren't looking hard enough... some degreaser and a wire brush helps...
There are some on the drivers side by the bellhousing flange, and there are some on the passenger side stamped onto a small pad in front of the cylinder head.

The block has been decked, the passenger side pad is unreadable. I will look on the drivers side by the bellhousing flange.

...and then...?

I'm at work, I'll look tonight.

Well lets start from the beginning.

If its provisioned for roller lifters its 87 up. The fact that its not, as long as its stock (which I doubt it is cause its got 4 valve relief pistons 😵 ), means its a truck motor. Since its two bolt its likely from a half ton truck, suburban, or blazer.

Now on to this 4 valve relief hooplah. The only GM v8 to my knowledge that would have 4 valve relief pistons is an LT5. But that would be a 4 bolt. As far as I know there were no small blocks that used 4 valve reliefs, stock that is. (makes no sense too...) So they must be aftermarket for LT5 pistons

Stomis, I dunno. I just finished disasembling an '89 truck L05 that had dished 4-valve releif pistons. These look VERY similar to those, except flat tops. And it was stock, my dad owned the truck his entire life and never had the engine rebuilt. So I know those pistons were stock. The rotating assembly on this engine looks very similar. To that one, save the flat top pistons.

Perhaps I'm mistaken then.
