Harder than dropping in an Olds engine, that's for sure. Don't know specifics for Pontiac's. I assume you need the proper fram mounts but after that I don't know anything else assuming the Poncho engine has all the right brackets

Finding those frame mounts might be tough, considering they only put poncho engines in from 78-80 IIRC. P.S., there is no big block pontiac engine. 🙂

I believe the 80-81 Grand Prix still used a Pontiac V8 engine so you will need to start with those motor mounts, the big question is are those the same motor mounts pontiac used for many years before that, i think there is a good chance they are, and is the G body frame in 81 the same as 83, if so it should work. The Pontiac 400 is not a huge motor so it should fit just fine.

I think you can use mounts from any gbody 78' and newer that came with a Pontiac 301 or possibly Trans Am/Firebird mounts that came with a Pontiac engine, though internally different I believe outside dimentions of a 301 are identical to 350,400 and 455 Pontiacs and also all accessories from a 301 should bolt up to the larger engines.

I am not sure about the f-body mounts, but yes any g body that came with either the Pontiac 265 or 301 would work. The years would be from 78-81 and I believe the Lemans, Grand Prix, Regal, and Century where all available with the 265 and/or 301 engines.

I haven't done any research lately on the Pontiacs, but I thought I remember some differences when it came to the accessories. :?:

I am not sure on brackets, and motor mounts, but you will LOVE that 400! My buddy has a 67 GTO with worked stock D port heads, around 10.3:1 compression, comp Magnum 470 lift cam, and in that approx 4000 lb car, it HAULS *ss!!!
