we box them on our circle track car and it stiffens up the rear end. I'm going to box a set for mine when I get a chance. I just changed my rear end so I reaaly shuda had a set ready for then but we start testing in 10 days and the race car comes first..
it'll cost you a few $$$ for the plating to box them instead of big $$$$$ buying them. When you box them make sure you leave enough clearance for the ends so they don't bind and don't forget to weld in the spacers for the rear sway bar before you box them.
With a lil shopping and the price that you can buy better stronger lighter aftermarket arms with poly bushing (not the best thing but better than mushy worn rubber thats in your stockers) with grease fittings. I would buy aftermarket. Also I bought the Edelbrock double adjustable uppers so they can be adjusted on the car. This is the ideal way to reset the pinion angle so as to plant the tires and lift the front of the car for best traction. Instead of lifting the rear of the car unloading the tires and spining. I think GM set them up this way to keep abusers from breaking drivetrain and suspension parts.
dogsh!t.... That's a myth that the pinion angle affects traction...the upper and lower rear control arms and combined with weight distribution, spring rates, and shock valving is what affects traction.
