Winter project. Big-*ss heavy old tub. Probably cast iron. HEAVY!!! And it is not going down my stairs. Cut it? I have a 7" angle grinder is that viable? What blade would work best? Smash it? Tons of opinions out there and for every one that says smash it another says don't. I have smashed up a big old boiler before so I know how to do that. I am worried about shards of porcelain getting everyehere. So cover it with a tarp or blanket. Eye and ear protection and heavy coveralls and gloves. Sheet of plywood to protect the tile floor. Remove toilet and sink out of harms way. Any tips?

I smashed up an old cast iron tub when I gutted my 2nd floor. The pieces were small enough to go out the double hung window and into a dumpster. The whole 2nd floor was a disaster area and I can't remember how big a mess the tub actually made. Sorry.

Sorry, never smashed up a tub.

My dad used to tell me that I could f**k up a bowling ball in a sand pile. So I guess I have skills. :)

Believe it or not, smashing it with a sledgehammer will be the neatest method of removal

Ear and eye protection a must

But it will go pretty quick

I used to have a huge old coal boiler down the basement. I believe they installed it and built the house around it. When I took it apart there were three sections none of which could ever make it up the stairs. So I smashed them all up and let me tell you I am still finding chunks of cast iron to this day. Chips went everywhere. So this time I would throw a canvas tarp or blanket over it just to contain the shards. No one thinks it can be cut?

Cast cuts like white metal moreless melts/grinds threw it. It does grind but slowly.

Plywood, tarp, tub an wrap tarp folding tarp inside of tub, then it totally inclosed in the tarp, beat it from outside towards inside breaking sides off it, then open tarp up take loose pieces out then wrap again and break bottom.

That's how we did ours in the farmhouse.
