I can't seem to find any info or I don't know what search terms to use.
I'm on a hunt for a 96 to 98 K 1500 ext cab 1/2T, short bed, 4x4. Anyone know of any companies/dealers that sell and prepare the documents to ship into

Canada(southern Ontario)?
Here in the Toronto area most are rusty and beat. I'm looking for a clean truck to last me further into my retirement and would like to explore the options of importing a 20 year old vehicle into Canada.

The trucks flow south, they get better prices than here and with the floods there is a shortage of trucks

Google custom car brokers there hundreds of them they will tell you what you can and cant import to Canada if it is 25 years or older and not customized you just pay GST good luck I have a friend in Winnipeg and 4 years ago we imported a lot with the use of a broker., Have a good day Jeff

Check this Transport Canada web site. I imported two vehicles in 2008. It was quite simple if you had all the required paper work in order when you hit the boarder.
https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety/safevehicles-importation-usa-index-445.htm

IMPORTATION OF VEHICLE FROM US

US side of crossing –
· Provide 72 hours notice to crossing location
· Fax a copy of Title and Bill of sale.
· Upon arrival, present the original of both Title and Bill of Sale.

Canadian Side of Crossing –
· Present Original Bill of Sale and Title.
· Transaction should be arms length.
· If vehicle is 25 or more years old and produced in the US 5% GST is due.

I used these folks to bring the wagon from Kansas to my front door in Ottawa: http://www.mackietransportation.com/enclosed-auto-transport.php

They handled everything. Be advised that it cost about $2100 to facilitate the whole process over and above the purchase price of the car. I got to pay extra because it was a roller.

If you decide to import, shop on the west coast. There's no road salt, no private plow trucks, and most have never really been offroad. If it spent it's life in the I-5 corridor rust won't be an issue.

My understanding is GST ( goods and services tax) will be based on the original presented Bill of Sale. Transport Canada has the power to determine a value if they believe your presented value is to low (red flag for fake Bill of Sale). There is also a RIV ( registrar of imported vehicles) fee $295.00 CDN. Fees are all paid at the border crossing.
