I have a 1986 olds cutlass supreme with 0lds 350 and id like to know if anybody can give me information concerning extra long spark plug wires and nice wire loom seperators to clean up how the wires look. any information and or links would be great. thanks John
Normally for a long set of wires I usually pick up a set cut to fit universal wires specked for a 440 Chrysler.....just make sure it comes with the ends for an HEI type cap in addition to a standard cap.
I perfer to not run the plug wires over the valve covers if I can help it. One type of loom I’ve used in the past is like on this SBC. It uses a couple of valve cover bolt holes to hold it on and the wires lay in the looms.
The last engine I did I used the standard Cadillac setup (it was also used on Fords) It uses valve cover bolts with a long stud on top and plastic looms that slip over the studs. The new plastic looms are available in the “help” section of most part stores.
I typically just purchase a set of Taylor 8mm cut-to-fit plug wires and make them to the exact lengths that I want. You can keep them super clean this way and its not hard to put them together.
It's especially easy if you get a ratcheting crimper with interchangable jaws. I had a set of these for deutsch connectors and decided to buy a set of jaws for spark plug wires. They work absolutely beautifully and I can assemble a set of wires within 20 minutes.
For the wire looms I use the R&M Specialties looms.
Not sure if you can see them in this picture or not. Kind of dark:
Well, im quite honestly not sure that if i bought a set of Chrysler wires or even a set of Cut-to-fit wires, that i have enough wire to do all my wires. How do i know..............short of buying a roll of wire and no ends and putting both ends on them. Id like to find blue wires with straight boots at the plug. Anybody?
