Can someone (on any G body) measure for me the distance of your factory shifter from the dashboard bottom edge (under the radio)? Just trying to get a reference measurement. TIA

Easy way to locate it if using a factory floor shifter is there is a brace running over the tunnel between the seats. Rear of shifter bolts to that

The dashes are different in each car, so the measurements may be slightly different.

What type of G-Body do you have?

What I like to do is sit the console in and place with the shifter where it is comfortable for me. Then mount it.

Unless it has the breadbox then it has to line up with the dash.

ohhhhh....I forgot to list that. A Malibu. So I am looking for Elco, Malibu, and Monte guys to sound off! And I'm putting in an aftermarket shifter. I'm trying to see if I want to go by the factory distance, or by which distance feels the best to me.

Does the console have a breadbox or coin tray?

the console I do have has the bread box. But I'm not installing it at this time. I think I may go without it. So, anyone? If it's easier, then just give me a measurement from the front of a [aftermarket] shifter mounting pad to a reference point on the tunnel. I have no rugs so it'll be easy to do now.

I just put a Muncie in my 82 El Co and have not put the seats or carpet in. Will that help if I take a few pics with a tape measure?
