So I purchased a brand new sunroof seal (gasket) for my 81 Grand Prix to replace the old one which is split at the rear. I removed the plastic trim piece and the 8 bolts which secure the glass to the sliding mechanism. But when I try to push the glass out it's obvious that I don't have enough room. So the question I have is do I have to lower the headliner to do this. I would rather not if it's not totally necessary as it would take more time than I have at the moment. 😢

I did some rigged up seal repair on a late 80s Caddy moonroof awhile back and it sucked. Took the whole unit out from the inside.
It wasn't a small job but was worth it considering the alternative leaky roof. HTH

I replaced the seal on my GN a couple years ago and I don't see anyway around taking the entire thing out. It's not hard. Just takes a bit of time. I was able to remove it and reinstall it by myself as well but a second set of hands wouldn't hurt.
