FEILD FIND...NEW PICS

I'd grab the 442 for parts if it were available to me. The rearend is worth at least half the price of the car, plus the buckets, console and some parts that are 442 specific would make it a great parts car. As far as resto goes, be sure the frame is not shot and that it does not have extensive rot in it. I have a disturbing amount of money into my Cutlass so far, but it's not something I built for profit. I estimate I will have over $15,000 into it by the end of the summer, and that is from a free car that I have owned for 14 years and had beaten to death delivering pizza. I did almost all of my own work and got many bargains. By far the most costly things I have done is the paint and body at about $3500 ( all done by me- including 14 patch panels) and the engine swap which includes the engine, trans, exhaust, some suspension, cooling system etc and that was about $5,000 when every little thing is added up. In the end, no car is cheap to do right, and few cars are profitable when finished. That's why this hobby should be about fun, like it used to be before the days of exorbanant prices driven by TV shows and auction houses. G bodies are the last of the everyman cars that were built in the same vein as the old Chevelles, GTO's and the like. Enjoy them while they're cheap, because soon they won't be and there will be little more than used up econoboxes left to tinker with.

If you're wanting a 442 with a factory moonroof, and that needs very little to be perfect, I have an '87 442 for sale.

is it $1000?/ jks haha...

i may still grab it just for part out.. i figured i'd have spent that or more trying to find the peices seprete... like the 15" 442 wheels and the rear..
strip it to a shell and move it out back...

you guys ever get ricer guys calling your a "muscle car".. just funny to what they think is muscle..

I have heard that, but it's not really a term of derision, just what the word has come to mean. There's no other suitable term for a rwd V8 sedan, and don't knock the whole import crowd. Some of them are hot rodders just like us, using junkyard ans swap meet finds, stuff from friend's cars, etc. Not all of them are about huge wings and body kits either. Some drive ugly *ss beaters with shitloads of power going to the rear wheels, like the nasty S13 240SX that drives by my work and hits the blowoff valve every time. Probably has a SR20DET swap and a bigger turbo, engine management work ( Nissans don't like blow off valves vented to the atmosphere stock!) and it has a huge front mount too. I personally will play with whatever I can, no matter who makes it or where it came from, so long as it's fun. I have worked on DSM's, Civics, Nissans ( I have owned 3 of 'em) ,etc as well as 5.0 Mustangs, Camaros, AMC's, G bodies, 4x4 trucks and even VW's and Fiats. It's all the same to me.

for sure..fast is fast.. just not my scene.. i alos have had many cars.. from honda's to my 460BB powerd ford... i just dont get the time and money spent on 92 civic vs that spent on a ..sbc or a sbf.. your gonna end up alot better in the end...

Don't forget the 442 has a 8.5 inch rear in it, that alone even if its an open diff is worth 600-800, if you can get the whole car for $1000 thats a good deal.

Rob

If it were me, I'd buy the 442 as a parts car for my Cutlass. I'd use the rear, bucket seat interior and some other things from it unless it's body was in pretty good shape then I'd swap in a running Chevy 350, etc and drive it.
