Was looking at the new James Bond flick coming out, No Time to Die which apparently will be Daniel Craig's last performance as the super-spy James Bond. One of the reviews piqued my interest in that a NEW 007, a female, will be introduced in the film. WTF?? Actress Lashana Lynch is to be the one chosen for the role. That's the rumor anyway. No disrespect to her at all, but if true...
I'm for women's rights, equal treatment, equal pay, etc., but something as iconic as Ian Fleming's James Bond does not NEED saving by the SJWs, IMO. While on one hand, you could argue, why not have a female "James Bond"? But I would argue "Why would you feel the need to?" Why does it HAVE to? Why can't it stay a male role? Nobody wants to watch the movie and gaze at the new "Bond man". Oh hell naw. Plus, if she's bedding a bunch of hot young studs, what would people think about her "sexual prowess?" Would it be different if James was doing it? Not a huge outcry so far. There's a certain part of every guy watching a JB movie and thinking- "yeah, that'd be cool if I WAS him..." It turns that fantasy on its head. Most people know it's entertainment. Not real. So why goof with it? Can't Hollyweird come up with enough solid leading roles and storylines for women without messing with the James Bond "man card"?
Sexual situations notwithstanding, here's the major beef I have with it. The action would be limited. Why? Because 99% of the time they WON'T take a female James Bond lead role, put her in a big-time dangerous situation, and have her overpower anyone in convincing fashion. Think about it. I've seen Bond beat, kicked and tossed around and if the baddies did that to a woman, there would be hell to pay. They just wouldn't do it, cheapening the character IMO. That's what I believe and nobody can convince me otherwise. Not saying a woman is not capable, it just won't be put to the test on how many punches or raps across the head with the butt of a gun she could take. Film moguls wouldn't do that to a woman character. So out the window that equal work crap goes.
It would be akin (not Anakin) to having a Dartha (Martha) Vader. With a pink helmet? While Captain Phasma was going to be the closest equivalence as such, I don't think she would be considered as strong with the Dark Side as much as she was a loyal Stormtrooper willing to carry out orders to perfection.
Surprising they'd even think it would fly. As much as I love Charlize Theron, her spy/action flick Atomic Blonde didn't do super-great at the box office, but the movie wasn't bad. In fact, AB2 is in production now. I think it would be on par with a female James Bond at first. First film might make a few bucks due to the novelty, but after that....forget about it. It's one thing to have a movie like Atomic Blonde, but with James Bond, you are messing with a major iconic franchise. Big difference. The huge following of JB fans won't stand for it. They tried it with Ghostbusters too. Not the brightest idea.
That's the latest rumor. But if it's out there, at least part of it's true. I usually don't care, but this is rebooting the franchise completely, not just having another iteration of it when they change 007 actors. No reason for it. None.
