There is a plastic valve or something like that in the brake booster vac. line that goes to the back of the carb. Does that need to be there? I think it would look cleaner if i didn't need it. just wondering.

It's right by the valve cover in the pic. I had a line break and spray fluid on my nice new gold paint as you can see. :x

Also, any ideas on how to hook up the kickdown cable?

As far as I know you need that canister. It essentially functions as a check valve.

What's wrong with the TV cable? Does it not reach the lower stud on the throttle linkage?

Alright, guess I need to find another way to clean it up.

I had a v6, so I'm guessing thats why the cables are too long. If you look closely on how that bracket is mounted, I had to move it back so i had complete tension on the throttle cable, which makes the kickdown that much farther away.

Should I just find a way to "extend" that to the linkage too?

It IS a check valve. The purpose is to retain vacuum in the booster in case the engine stalls so you will still have power assist on the brakes.

X2 you may be able to dress it up or get a fancy looking check valve, but there is no eliminating it outside of a big complicated hydroboost or vacuum pump system.

or you could go to manual brakes--not something i'd recommend.

At least it won't be too hard to pop off the valve cover and re-shoot it...

You might want to re-think your throttle cable bracket there. When they're attached with one bolt like that, they have a tendancy to swivel under pressure, moving the assembly forward, and losing your tension on your throttle cable.
It's not because it was a V6 car, they're all the same length. It's because you're not using a Quadrajet. It was a perfect swap from the 2 bbl in my Cutlass wagon to the 4 bbl after the motor swap.
You'll need to try and scavenge up some pivot balls or something off of an old carb or look in Jegs to mount the kickdown on your Edelbrock's linkage.
Also, you need to make or buy a block off plate for that missing EGR valve on the intake there below the throttle linkage.
If you got a gasket set for your motor, find the gasket for it and just trace it on some steel, cut it out and you're good to go.

Man, that has to be loud without that covered.

That's not a check valve, it's a filter, and I was told it acts like a backfire protector also, but that may or may not be true. The check valve is on the booster, a round white plastic fitting in a grommet that the vacuum hose goes on.The picture won't load so go to the Rockauto page and hit "more info" and there it is.http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1055067,parttype,1756 The TV cable has a bit of adjustment in it, just push the tab on the backside to adjust it, but I'm not sure it's enough for that distance.

Ohhh. I see about the filter now... I'll probablly just leave it then.

Yeah, I might pick up a cheapy autozone cable bracket or something.

I just pulled off the egr to give to my dad so he can make a block off out of 1/8" steel. stocking stuffer. lol I think that was right after i did my "custom" slider cable bracket too lol.
