Welcome to the forum. Monte looks to be in pretty good condition. Replacing the rear frame sections on these cars isn't a bad job really. The frames are the same on 78-87 Cutlass, Regal, Monte, Grand Prix, & 78-83 Malibu. Even the 4 doors have the same frame, only the wagons and el camino are different. This leaves a wide variety of cars to look for that are being parted out that you could get the rear frame section from. I found a guy with a rust free frame from a 78 Malibu and he cut the rear sections off for me for $30! All you need is a sawz-all, grider, and a welder. You could always pick up a cheap welder and practice on things until you're ready to tackle the frame. I replaced both of my rear frame rails for about $65, that's including the rails, undercoating, a new wheel for the grinder, and a sawz-all from harbor freight as well as blades for it.

Wow, if I could get the parts that cheap I would be able to invest in a good welder rather than be cheap! I've just been looking at the replacements from summit racing which will run me around 400 I think. Glad to hear it's not that bad of a job, and I actually joined the G Body forums figuring with the same basic layout I would have alot better luck here than in a monte carlo forum. Love how much they used the same basic car for a decade heh.

Yeah, your car looks REALLY nice, especially for a black car. It's the hardest color to keep looking good, but it sure does look great when it does. Welding is a very easy thing to pick up if you're good with your hands. Replacing frame rails isn't a minor project, but it shouldn't be too bad if you practice a little and get good at it.

Ha, part of the reason why I bought the car is how good it looked in the pictures! The paint on the trunk is definitely trash, and every corner of the car is dented. But there aren't little dings everywhere, so I'm hoping I can eventually get it all nice and straight, and just do a few coats of paint on the car. I figure repainting a black car black shouldn't be as bad as it has been trying to match red when I do repairs on the miata.

Ha ha so we're in the same boat. 😉 My car also looked fantastic in the ad, and as it turned out, the paint's not garbage, but it sure could use some help. I completely agree about the matching aspect. Some people will say that you can't get it to match if you don't at least blend it. For my purposes, in black, it will match just fine. Heck, my car has already had panels repaired, so it ALREADY doesn't match. I almost need to paint it one panel at a time to KEEP it matching. 😀
