I've been waiting for years to buy a g body car and a few weeks ago I finally did it. I couldn't be happier as I drive down the road grinning ear to ear. Anyways I figure I'd introduce myself since I've been lurking the forums for awhile now. It's got a stock 5L 305 V8. Seems to run pretty well. Any basic maintenance tips for a first time g body owner?

Alonzo is that you?

Welcome to the club! My 2nd favorite gbody after the late regals are the 78-79 montes!
Im not too much of a guru on all things gbody, but heres a small tip.
Since its the stock engine, remember to always add zinc into your engine oil when you change it.
The powers at be thought it a good idea to remove it from the oil and not tell anyone. Its really played hell on these older cars with the original engines. Im not positive exactly what the lack of zinc damages but i think it flattened out the lobs on the cam, or created more wear on the lifters.

Anyways congrats on your new car!

Adding to STLRegal, in the 80s GM ****ed up with heat treating the cams and they tended to go flat in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. ZDDP is important.

Thanks you! Is this ZDDP something I can add now? Previous owner said he recently changed the oil. Or something I have to wait to add at next oil change?

I just sold my 3 car 3rd gen collection (278's,and a 79)to a gentleman in the Netherlands, only to aquire anothether 3 car 3rd gen collection!!! This round I came up with one of the 3rd gens that has been eluding me and my hoarding ways for some time,a rust free black on black,t-topped original floor shift, bucket seat,v8 1980 mc!(as I've been looking to "Donovan" one😉 as I think the 78/79 header single light is hideous🙁) Included in deal,i also got 2 sets of rust free doors,quarters,fenders,78/79 front clips, and bumpers😉 please tell me you are going to LS this????

Okay quick question: what is this hole for in the picture below? My buddy was saying a rubber stopper should be there. Can anyone tell me if he is correct? Motor is a 5L 305.

It could be for the oil cap or the pcv valve you need a grommet for either. Depends on which one you're missing.
