im gettin ready to order 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers for the 84 hurst! im just wonderin what the part number for these are, it looks like they need to be fairly small with center in center out like the origianals to fit in there, im keeping all my pipe stock just replacing the mufflers, any help is great!

Keep in mind these are very loud and tend to drone or resonate at cruise. But they do have that cool patented sound when you rev it up! You might consider stagering them a bit and or adding an H pipe as it often helps to get rid of the annoying drone that many have with these at around 2200 rpm. Good luck

just get the regular 40's, not the super 40's. a H or X is a must, along with tailpipes.

yeah i figured there may be some drone, and yeah im just gonna go with the regular 40 series, i'll call them tomorrow and see what they recommend, like i said i know the factory ones arent that big so i'll have to find some flowmasters comparable in size

Are super 40's more loud than regular 40's? And what is the loudest flowmaster? It'd be cool if someone could make a list from the most quite to the most loud of the flowmaster series, b/c when I look at the numbers I have no idea what they mean.

yeah i believe the supers are louder than the regular 40's, im just gonna stick with the regular 40's

Flowmaster or a main marketer does or did have a website with discriptions sound and loudness etc. Dunno I want more performance and less noise than flowmasters so I alway look toward Walker Ultra flows or Magnaflows and then fit the biggest case.

super 44 are the loudest, then super 40's then regular 40's. they you get into the 50 series, which are quieter and are more for rv's big block cars, and bigger trucks.

I have the Delta-Flow 40s (2 chamber) on my 86, believe the Jegs p/n is 38942542; they definitely have a bark to them  . Yes, there is a drone from 21 - 2400 rpm but not too bad - again, depends on the plumbing you have. You'll get some interior resonance despite the site saying they're quieter than the standard and super. I was actually going to check into getting the 50s but I think the case / overall length will be too long. I'm like you, don't want to replace the pipes / tailpipes, plus the system is still really good. If I have to change them I'm definitely going to get an h-pipe.

You can check Jegs (maybe Summit too) website and they have a description of each muffler, along with part #s and prices. There are a couple of sounds clips, but they all sound the same. You can also check the Pypes system too.

Good luck.
