Flowtech headers for 307

Ok got the strater in there and looks like I need to do more work on the mounting flange. The headers allmost touch the starter and have alot of room on the other side. The raised mounting surface on the header was cut on an angle so I think if I change that angle the other way it will move the pipes more to the frame side. This is alot of work to save money Flowtech.

Almost all full length are very tight to full size starters. I wish they made a mini starter that sat in the same position as the stock starter, just more compact. I ground on my Ebay special clockable mini starter to sit stock, ton of room in the stock position. It would have been very tight in the 4x4. Problem is the block gets in the way. Sanderson welds the o rings around the ports like yours, works very well with just RTV. I am suprised you didn't have to remove the oil filter adapter. I did on my 307, that was a roomy 78 1/2 ton with Flowtech A body headers. They rusted through the ceramic coating, blew collector gaskets and needed double gaskets to seal. They suck as far as headers go.

See how this raised mounting section is angled?

I shaved that flange down a little, put the header on without the gasket and pryed it over. Now I have some room. Is there a part number for a PM starter to fit an olds engine? You know like the newer smaller starters they use on cars today. I checked some chevys and they are mouted on the other side.

As far as stock parts, I couldn't say. I don't know if the Olds V8 lived much longer past 1990. There were those Auroras with the DOHC V8s but idk if they have any interchangeable parts with the old V8s.

Powermaster 9510 or 9610 should work but neither are clockable.

I quess no one has done this. I have now bought a power ram and I heated up the drivers header to get clearance to the starter. So there is other headers availible out there that fit without all this work? I have 1 flowmaster muffler and will try to find another if not use a off brand to get te exaust done. I finally got the starter shield in there but the header is still too close.

Update, bought a porta power now I got 250 in this header deal. Been heating and pushing the header to the frame and it's working but it springs back and still touches the shield at the starter so I have left it on there for a week. while I start it to check other problems like quad airhorn seep and left valve cover leakage. Don't use #2 Permatex. Ultra Black or GMS but GMS will take alot of force to get the valve cover off again.
