The time has come when my rusted out rear frame horns had to be amputated to prevent them from falling off on the road. This is on my 79 elco. Some of the cancer has spread to the bottom of the wheel arches and I'm concerned that I would have difficulty stopping the rust and properly welding on 'new' horns. I do want to pull a light trailer with this and think a new frame would be the best option so I could box it and brace it for more stiffness and feel safer pulling stuff down the road.

But I don't want to go to the hassle of a body swap and want to take the easy road and get some horns and slap em on there.

How difficult is a body swap really going to be?

The problem is not so much the body swap, it is finding a donor frame (in the same part of the country as where you are) in remarkably better condition than your present one. There are some good frames available in Florida, for example, but most of our frames down here are in fairly good condition.

If you can find a frame, I'd say go for it. No measuring, no questionable welds, no worries with a trailer.
