My car is an 85 el camino and was wondering how much to notch the frame. do you i need to put any bracing in the back the car will have a 383 making about 450 hp it will be street strip mostly street but i want it to performe good on the track also would soldid body mounts be any help or would it make the car ride more bumpy? thanks

First, welcome to the forum!

OK, as far as notching your frame I would recommend you do not. You didn't mention even why you would want to do this? If it's rear wheel clearance there are several other ways to get bigger tires and rims on. One is spacers between the drum and rim, the other is less of a back space on the rims you buy. Either way don't mess with the frame unless your doing huge modifications like a shortened rear end with tubs, and then I would let a professional do the job. Your body bushings are personal preference. I would go with poly bushings. They are 25yrs old now and I bet they are dry rotted. Everyone says don't put solids in it will be too bumpy/noisy but I yet to hear anyone say they had these symptoms who actually put them in. So, talk to someone who's actually put them in and then make a decision. If it means anything, I put poly bushings in last year and I don't regret it.

Why not just read the post on the home page that says "How to notch the frame"?

Can I fit a 10.5 inch tire with stock frame rails or even a 10 wide had 8s und it was a tight fit if I rember corectly as for the bushings I have the frame off and and wasn't going to put the old ones in thaks

I can't fit an 8 inch wide with 4 inch backspacing on the rear. You should be able to fit a 10.5 no problem.

I hope you meant to say "can".

A 255 with 4in bs should work fine. I think those rims might be a lil more than 4in bs. They look to tuck as much as mine do with 4.5 bs.

1 camino,
Not sure what size your shooting for but here is what I have run and run currently.
8" rim with 4.25" backspace with 275-60 15 will fit but rub on the inside just a hair around hard cornering.
I put the same tire on a 10" rim with a 3.75" back space and no issues at all, below is the classic Cragar SS deep dish 10" rim.

For the track I have the same rim but in a centerline, 10" wide with 275-50-15, no issues
