I have found a frame from an 85 Monte SS on craigslist. I was wondering if I could use it to put my 79 Cutlass body on that frame? I am wanting to box the frame and have it painted and then just set my body down on it. If you have any input please let me know. And is $500 to much for the frame rearend and suspension? I think he said it is f41 suspension.

Yes the frame will work $500 is not a bad price as long as frame is solid.

i wouldn't paint the frame. i'd either powdercoat it, epoxy coat it or use por-15. basically something SOLID. the por-15 may be the best or the worst--it apparently doesn't adhere well if you get all the rust off. but if the amount of rust is right, it's supposed to be nearly indestructible

Ya I planed on haveing it blasted and doing the por-15. But it will be a while before I get that far.

There is a possibility of the front frame horns being different lengths. Kinda minor but will require cutting and welding if they are different.

X2!

And I've bought running and driving cars for $500... That's way too much money in my book.

I bought the frame I'm using for $125.00, it's a MCSS frame and about 2-3/4" longer from the rad support mounts forward than my '79 Malibu frame. Mine had the dreaded rear rot. I'll have to collapse my front bumper mounts so my bumper does not stick out front too-far. I stripped and sandbasted mine. It's ok to POR-15 bare metal as long as you etch the metal first. POR sells their version of acid wash called "Metal Ready", but I found something simular called "Ospho" available at my local hardware store alot cheaper. It's a mild acid solution that converts to a iron phosphate coating(follow directions). $500 sounds a bit high, but if it's worth it to you......Good Luck
