my freind just bought a 97 grand prix gtp (s/c), what are do you all think of these cars? looks pretty nice, cant wait to get the buick running so i can give him a run. lol

Personally I like the Bonniville's a little better for looks, but thats just opinion. They've got a pretty nice setup goin and I have seen a couple built ones go really fast.

he says its pretty quick. lotta low end power.

They are great cars overall. I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT. I have over 175,000 miles on it and the engine runs great. The transmission is garbage, tell him not to beat on it all of the time like I do with mine. I have had to have it rebuilt twice within 50,000 miles because of hard part failures. Other than the trans issues it has been a great car. I have not had to change any of the accessories and the a/c is still cold and I have not had to recharge it since I have owned it. The only suspension piece I have had to change was 1 outer tie rod end, I think its almost time for ball joints and struts/springs. I have had a pretty bad problem with the font wheel bearings. Ever since I hit 100,000 miles they have been going about every 20-25,000 miles. I think thats because I got the cheap china made ones, but they had a lifetime warranty so they have been free. One thing to tell your friend to watch out for is rust on the rocker panels behind the ground effects. I took mine off to see where this rust was popping out from and most of the rocker is completely rotted out. Their was also a ton of dirt built up behind the ground effects, I think thats what caused the rust.

Tell your friend if he is going to beat on the car or modify the engine alot he needs to get an upgraded transmission. This website has alot of good parts for the car and they have the trannys also. They have great customer service with fast shipping. https://www.zzperformance.com/

hes 16... yes... it will get pretty um... well exercised. lol it is a 97 with only 123k on it. he dosnt have money for a transmission, so he will drive it till it dies lol

I almost forgot to tell you, make sure that he changes the supercharger oil!! No one does it because they assume it gets changed with the engine oil.

 .... supercharger oil... didnt know they had their own oil. k ill let em know.

biggest

thing to look for. Tear out the carpet in the trunk and check the strut towers. They fail really bad. Did in mine. So bad the top of the tower was ready to collapse. Overall good cars but have their share of problems. Im not into Front wheel drive cars anymore either. TOo much of a pain in the *ss to work on.

For a 16 year old it'll definatly be a handful. Fast, and as I remember a considerable amount of torque steer. But for dependability you can't beat a 3800, supercharged or not there great motors. And if he ever does decide to build it the sky's the limit.
