Hey guys,
I have just picked up most of what I need to install a TPI into my 83 malibu wagon. The one thing I have not figured out completely is how to work out the fuel pump. I want to use an in tank pump, but a wagon's fuel sending unit seems to be unique. How did anyone else tackle modifying the sending unit to mount a pump? Did any one add baffles to the tank?
If you have them pics would be helpful.

I did it to my tank, but I heavily modified it. Look at my build thread on page one for pics.

There is a company, Tanks Inc, that sells a conversion set-up, you have to cut another hole in the top of your tank. But it allows you to add the pump and it has a little "well" to keep the pump inlet submerged in fuel.

Another option is to sump the tank and run an external pump, I had this on 2 different FI wagons, and under 1/4 the pump would suck air on corners and braking. It was always a pain because the car would stall and take a few minutes to get fuel to the rails.

You could run a surge tank also, using the stock pump to pull fuel to the surge tank, and a HP electric pump to feed the rail.

IMO, if you have basic fab skills, the cheapest route is the add-in fuel pump assembly.

Here is a good article http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2008/02/InTankFuelPump/index.php

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help.
I intend to modify the tank, but like to have all my options and a little feedback from others before I do it.

Cool. Those are all options I tossed around, I had access to the machine shop and weld shop in work, so that's why I did what I did, I also have a turbo engine, so it was imperative that i never suck air, and I needed room for 2 pumps. 😀

Anyway, snap some pictures of what you end up doing, I'd love to see em. 😀
