So, it has been changed at some point.

Ok, cheapest correct tank is a Spectra GM307C or GM3C are the correct tanks.

I assume that they have baffles?

Where is the best place to get it (read cheap) ?

By hitting the license plate, do you mean its a little more rearward than it should be? I had to slightly bend my filler neck to get it to fit correctly, it's an aftermarket turbo Buick tank as well.

I'm using a stock 87 GN tank with no issues.. and i just bought the racetronix AN fitting pump still trying to find out how to make it work with the Vette filter/regulator using braided lines.

-8 to -6 reducer, to -6an line and then at the regulator, a 3/8 to -6 fitting, and 5/16 to -6 fitting. You will need two 5/16 fittings one for the supply to the filter and one for the filter outlet
